(CP1) - Introduction to scientific research activity: History of the Western research procedure; Research procedure and objectives;
(CP2) - Ethics in research: Plagiarism; Scientific procedure; Conflict of interest in the research process; Evaluation/interpretation of research error.
(CP3) - Research methodologies: Research planning; quantitative, qualitative and mixed techniques;
(CP4) - Literature review: Relevant sources; source impact metrics systems; types of documentation; review procedure; organization/presentation of bibliographical references.
(CP5) - Scientific writing: Organization, structure and formality of a scientific work (thesis and article); management and presentation of data and results; formal scientific language; plagiarism prevention.
(CP6) - Digital tools: Available word processors; Data processing and presentation tools; bibliographic reference management tools.
Learning Outcomes
The student after attending this UC will be able to:
OB1-Formulate a research project. Demonstrate its social, economic and scientific relevance. Identify possible solutions. Support its argument with solid, peer-validated bibliography. Clearly state the motivation and objectives of the research project.
OB2-Analyse ethically a research project, using norms and codes of conduct, and assess its potential ethical implications.
OB3-Design the research plan and select the research methodology. Justify its suitability to the objectives through specialized literature.
OB4-Identify reputable sources of information for literature review. Select scientific databases and apply review methods. Classify the results and use bibliographic reference managers.
OB5-Write with scientific formalism and demonstrate critical thinking and synthesis capacity. Prevent plagiarism.
OB6-Use digital tools to support the scientific research process.
