Learning Outcomes

The main goal of this course is to allow students to acquire knowledge about the key areas of Project Management, including the fundamental concepts, best practices, the most relevant frameworks, and project management methodologies. Taking into account the wide scope of this domain, a keen focus will be assigned to the following two key approaches: waterfall-based approaches, so-called conventional, and agile approaches, well suited to scenarios at which an incremental approach to delivery may be preferred.
Reference tools will be used to promote the application of gained knowledge in simulated contexts that reflect typical project management scenarios. This maps to the goal of making it easier for students to apply the acquired knowledge in their professional environment.
At the end of this course the students will be able to:
OB1: Identify the key knowledge areas and process groups described in the PMBoK® Guide.
OB2: Create a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) for a Project.
OB3: Create and maintain a project plan using Microsoft Project.
OB4: Describe the key differences between agile and conventional Project Management approaches.
OB5: Describe how to implement an agile approach for Project management, such as Scrum.
OB6: Identify the key Scrum roles.
OB7: Create and maintain a project/product backlog in the context of Scrum.
OB8: Monitor and control the team?s progress, detecting potential threats early in the process, along with any re-alignment needs.
OB9: Promote effective and productive planning sessions with Scrum teams.
OB10: Describe the key differences between Scrum and Kanban.
OB11: Identify different alternatives to scale Agile approaches when the number of teams increases substantially.
