1. Simulation as a decision support tool for analysis and improvement of logistic systems. Conceptual Modeling of Simulation Models. Development of simulation models. Testing and validation of simulation models. Use of a professional Logistic Systems Simulation tool. Analysis and discussion of case studies. Analysis of the results of a simulation model.
2. Notions of Statistics applied to simulation. Random number generation. Monte Carlo simulation. Management of Service and Queues. Waiting Theory. Queuing Systems (Arrivals, Queue, Attendance, Little's Law). The system One queue / One server: M/M/1. The One Queue / multiple servers: M/M/s. Deterministic systems: M/D/1. Examples of applications.
Learning Outcomes
This course has the following main objectives:
(A) Acquire critical reflection habits and develop research, synthesis, structuring and information presentation skills in the field of Logistics Simulation.
(B) Recognize the multiplicity and complexity of issues related to simulation, instilling the need for continuous updating and deepening of knowledge and skills.
(C) Understand and analyze the behavior of a real logistic system.
(D) Develop simulation models.
(E) Interpret results and draw conclusions from simulation programs.
(F) Understand how Simulation can be a very useful methodology in modeling Logistics Systems.
(G) Understand how the Theory of Queuing can be a very useful approach methodology for decision support.
