Course Description – Accounting
This course provides students with a comprehensive introduction to the fundamental principles and practices of accounting. It focuses on the purpose and legal framework of accounting, the recognition and measurement of key economic categories, bookkeeping procedures, and the preparation and interpretation of financial statements. Students gain an understanding of the relationships between business transactions, accounting records, and financial reporting.
The course covers essential topics including accounting documentation, books of accounts, recording of typical business transactions, the preparation of financial statements and annual reports, budgeting, accounting analysis, internal control, and the organisation of accounting functions. It also introduces the professional responsibilities and ethical standards expected of accounting practitioners.
Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to understand and apply fundamental accounting concepts, record basic business transactions, interpret financial statements, and recognise the role of accounting information in business decision-making, financial reporting, and organisational accountability.
