Course Description – Macroeconomics I
This course provides students with a comprehensive introduction to the fundamental concepts, theories, and analytical tools of macroeconomics. It examines the functioning of the economy as a whole, focusing on the interactions between key macroeconomic variables and the role of economic policy in promoting economic stability and growth. Students develop an understanding of how macroeconomic principles can be applied to analyse business environments and support economic decision-making.
The course covers essential topics including aggregate supply and demand, the measurement of economic activity, economic growth and development, consumption and investment, business cycles, the multiplier model, money and banking systems, monetary policy, unemployment, inflation, and the major schools of macroeconomic thought. Through lectures, tutorials, and collaborative learning activities, students strengthen their analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills in the context of macroeconomic analysis.
Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to explain and apply core macroeconomic concepts, evaluate the effects of fiscal and monetary policies, interpret key macroeconomic indicators, and analyse economic issues relevant to business and public policy while considering ethical and societal implications.
