CP1. Biological reactions in homogeneous medium;
CP2. Homogeneous and heterogeneous bioreactors;
CP3. Diffusional limitations in immobilized cell systems;
CP4. Monitoring and control of (bio)reactors.

Learning Outcomes

The students should be able to:
OBJ1-Formulate the mass/molar balance equations for biomass, substrates and metabolic products in bioreactors, from prior knowledge of chemical reaction engineering and biochemistry.
OBJ2- Assess the impact of process variables in the design and operation of bioreactors;
OBJ3- Assess the importance of mass and heat transport in heterogeneous bioreactors;
OBJ4- Select the type of bioreactor suitable for a given process;
OBJ5- Implement monitoring and control strategies for bioreactors.
