Learning Outcomes
The soil mechanics studies the behavior of soils when they are submitted to loads, for example, from engineering works.
All civil engineering works, in one way or another, are supported on the ground, and many of them also use the ground itself as an element of construction such as dams and embankments of earth roads. Therefore, stability, functional behaviour and aesthetic of the works will be largely determined by the soils characteristics.
It will be applyed the knowledge acquired previously and methods of improvement of soils behavior.
It is intended to provide the student with analytical skills and to familiarize with the equipment and construction techniques most common in the execution of geotechnical works.
