Properties of steel
Structural analysis according to EC3: geometric imperfections, the effects of 2nd order; elastic analysis and plastic analysis. Frame braced and not braced. Simplified analysis of 2nd order effects.
Cross sections: classification
Design of beams submitted to bending
Design of columns submitted to axial force and bending
Connections: Welded and bolted. Design and verification of safety.
Behavior of composite steel-concrete structures. Principles of design according to EC4.
Design of steel-concrete composite beams.
Design of steel-concrete composite slabs.

Learning Outcomes

The unit aims to apply previously acquired knowledge and existing regulations to the design of steel and composite structures.
Provide professional skills in design and execution of steel structures and composite steel concrete structures.
