5. Presentation of real case studies and problems concerning port and coastal engineering, as well as harbor geotechnics: practical examples and field trip visits
Learning Outcomes
Combine general notions, techniques, and terminologies commonly employed in port and coastal engineering, focusing on port and maritime geotechnics and infrastructures. The main subject combines an integrative approach related to the requirements of a major transport infrastructure, the harsh marine environment, and the design of particular structural solutions. This allows the students to approach real problem-solving, as well as generic and specific design technologies related to port and coastal engineering.
Promote learning and applying rules and procedures, especially problems concerning foundations, to be adopted in coastal protection works and port structures.
Enable better comprehension, knowledge, and performance of the main engineering problems that appear at the borders and mouth of the rivers, such as protection structures and port activities operations, especially ground and foundation behaviour.
