Contents

1. Stress on rock masses and rock engineering: general issues (CP1/10%).
2. Rock support: Provisional and definitive. Reinforcement of the rock mass. Support and Pre-effort (CP2/15%).
3. Description of the various systems, their application, and its design: a) bolting; ii) Wire mesh; iii) Steel arches; iv) Sprayed concrete; v) Concrete lining (CP3/15%).
4. Analysis of stability (CP4/15%).
5. Underground projects with design and planning of the various stages of excavation (CP5/15%).
6. Design of transport underground equipment and drilling equipment (CP6/15%).
7. Rock reinforcement design. Characteristic curve of the excavation and support. Calculation of safety factor. Effect of the excavation face (CP7/15%).
 

Learning Outcomes

Qualification of the students in underground works (OB1) .
The syllabus intended to present the type of underground excavations that can be performed on rock masses, the different methods available depending on the type and purpose of the excavation, the criteria for selecting these same methods in rock mass characteristics and the selection of the better design(OB2) .
The themes addressed lead to an overview of the blasting of rock masses applied to the engineering of underground excavations (OB3).
With the development of teaching activities during the semester, as in the case of field trips, workshops and design project of tunneling, students will develop skills in studies within the underground excavations (OB4),aligned with the principles of circular economy and sustainable development goals.
