FUNDAMENTALS OF ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING II
Description
Course Description – Fundamentals of Electrical Engineering II
This course provides students with advanced knowledge of electrical engineering by focusing on alternating current (AC) circuits, polyphase systems, and transient phenomena. It builds on the fundamentals of electrical engineering and develops the analytical skills required to understand, model, and solve problems encountered in electrical power systems and electronic circuits.
The course covers key topics including sinusoidal and alternating quantities, phasor analysis, Fourier analysis, AC circuit analysis with resistors, capacitors, and inductors, power and energy in alternating circuits, resonance and filter applications, reactive power compensation, modelling of real electrical components and transformers, three-phase systems, symmetrical components, rotating magnetic fields, and transient behaviour in first- and second-order circuits.
Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to analyse and solve linear AC circuits, evaluate power and energy in electrical systems, understand resonance and filtering techniques, analyse balanced and unbalanced three-phase systems, model practical electrical components, and investigate transient responses in electrical circuits using appropriate engineering methods.
Learning Outcomes
• demonstrate knowledge and understanding of basic problems of time depending electromagnetic fields and transient problems • analyze alternating linear circuits • understanding resonant phenomena and the use of electric filters • understanding of multiphase systems and analysis of connections in three-phase systems • analyze the transient phenomena of first and second order of linear circuits
