Description

Course Description – Microcontrollers

This course provides students with a comprehensive understanding of microcontrollers, embedded systems, and programmable logic controllers (PLCs) used in modern industrial automation and control systems. It develops the knowledge and practical skills required to program, interface, and implement microcontroller-based and PLC-based solutions for engineering applications.

The course covers key topics including microprocessor and microcontroller architectures, embedded system fundamentals, numerical representation of data, processor operation, memory organization, interrupts, input/output interfaces, programming in assembly and C, peripheral modules, analog and digital interfaces, sensors and actuators, timers, counters, pulse-width modulation, analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog conversion, programmable logic devices, industrial logic control systems, PLC architecture, and PLC programming principles.

Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to explain the architecture and operation of microcontrollers and PLCs, develop embedded software in C and assembly language, interface sensors and actuators with embedded systems, design and implement basic automation and control applications, and apply modern programming and debugging techniques in industrial and embedded engineering environments.
