Description

Course Description – Physics of Waves

This course provides students with a comprehensive understanding of wave phenomena and their applications in engineering and technology. It introduces the fundamental principles governing mechanical and electromagnetic waves, optics, and photometry, enabling students to analyse wave propagation and apply physical concepts to practical engineering problems.

The course covers key topics including the characteristics and behaviour of waves, wave propagation, interference, diffraction, reflection and refraction, mechanical waves and acoustics, electromagnetic waves, polarization, geometrical optics, optical instruments, and photometric principles. Students explore the physical laws underlying sound, light, and optical systems while developing the analytical skills required to solve engineering problems involving wave phenomena.

Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to explain the physical principles of mechanical and electromagnetic waves, analyse optical and acoustic systems, apply photometric concepts, solve engineering problems related to wave propagation and optics, and use mathematical and physical methods to evaluate wave-based phenomena in technical applications.
