Description

Course Description – Sensors and Measurement of Non-Electrical Quantities

This course provides students with a comprehensive understanding of sensors, measurement transducers, and measurement systems used for the acquisition of non-electrical quantities in industrial and engineering applications. It focuses on the operating principles, characteristics, and selection of sensing technologies for accurate measurement and monitoring of physical parameters.

The course covers key topics including measurement transducers and signal conditioning circuits, resistive, capacitive, and inductive sensors, piezoelectric, pyroelectric, magnetoresistive, and Hall-effect sensors, photodetectors, strain measurement techniques, displacement and position measurement, rotational angle, torque and mechanical power measurement, temperature, pressure, and liquid level measurement. Laboratory exercises provide practical experience in sensor selection, calibration, measurement techniques, and the analysis of measurement systems.

Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to explain the operating principles of industrial sensors, evaluate and select appropriate sensing technologies for specific engineering applications, design basic measurement systems, and apply modern measurement techniques for the accurate acquisition and interpretation of non-electrical quantities.

On completion of this course the student will be able to • describe basic compostion and principles of operation of industrial sensors. • explain basic principles how sensors and other devices for measurements of non-electrical quantities work, • make a selection of sensor or measurement method in particular practical application.
