CHEMICAL ENGINEERING
MATERIALS ENGINEERING
Description
tudent acquires the structure and properties of solid construction materials (elements, compounds, polymers, glasses, composites), understands the meaning of defects, dislocations, boundaries in materials, understands thermodynamic equilibriums, identifies and predicts kinetic transformations in multiphase materials, understands strengthening processes and mechanical failure in materials and recognises different types of advanced materials.
Learning Outcomes
• find information on the different materials and use them in calculations, • connect the structure and properties of the four main types of materials and explain their behaviour, • interpret phase diagrams and predict the presence of phases depending on temperature and composition, • calculate critical phase transformation parameters, • develop and apply different types of materials, taking into account the environmental aspect, • use correct terminology in the field of material science, • select and use laboratory tests to determine the typical properties of materials.
